Central Oregon's Tribute To Heros

Central Oregon Tribute To Heroes
2010
Project History
During a Redmond VFW Post 4108, meeting in the summer
of 2009, a discussion was held about what to do
for the upcoming Redmond 100th year celebration in 2010.
There was a suggestion that one of the Vietnam war
“Traveling Wall” exhibits be brought to Central Oregon.
The cost and requirements of the different walls were investigated
and it was recommended that the American Veterans
Traveling Tribute (AVTT) be chosen. This exhibit is
more than just the “Traveling Vietnam Wall;” it is a tribute
to all American heroes from World War II and Korea, plus
a display of gold dog tags under glass for our fallen heroes
in conflicts such as Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iraqi
Freedom, and 9/11.
The project was named “Central Oregon Tribute to Heroes
– 2010” (COTTH – 2010) and the target date was
set for August 11-15, 2010 at Redmond High School. The
“wall” committee was formed with interested veterans and
citizens from all surrounding communities.
The project is considered a Central Oregon project, and
volunteers, advertising, and financial help were solicited
from all of the surrounding communities. Businesses,
veterans, and individuals, throughout the entire region,
generously helped to finance this “Traveling Wall” and bring
it to Deschutes County where everyone can come and pay
tribute to our fallen heroes.
We thank all of you who contributed to help bring this
tribute to Central Oregon!
Donations May be made at any Central Oregon - Home Federal Bank.
Make checks payable to "COTTH - 2010" or "Central Oregon Tribute To Heros - 2010"
If you make a deposit at Home Federal, get a receipt and give it to Bill Pieters. A copy is acceptable. A form has been created for anyone who requests an invoice or a receipt for their donation. For example, Qwest pledged $500 but required an invoice first. If you need either an invoice or a receipt, contact Valorie Wrinkle and give her the particulars. She can either prepare the form for you or provide you with a blank. Her e-mail address is vwrinkle@bendbroadband.com or you can call her at 531-923-8591. Please use the standard form so we can be consistent.

There will be several wreaths placed between 4-5:30 on Thursday at The Wall.
Becky will contact Vern Aldrich for the opening prayer.
The Honor Guard will practice Aug. 8th & will come between the flags & The Wall, stopping behind the flags, placing the colors and then disband.
Jim McNamara has a videographer in mind for the event. He will meet and greet at the Post til the closing ceremonies for $600.00. It was suggested that we contact KOHD & Z-21 for their camera people to videograph from Warm Springs Museum until the end of the event.
Larry Wood will be the Sunday piper for the closing ceremonies.
Fran was able to get a shuttle from CRRanch confirmed for Thurs.4-9, still not certain about Friday, but 11-7 on Sat.
A Banner will be placed over Glacier Ave. Aug. 3-10th when it will be taken to Redmond High School. The cost for this is $125.00.
The DAR ladies will read the names of the Central Oregon Veterans on Friday night at the 8:30 p.m. candlelight vigil. They will start with Afghanistan & work back to WWII.
Mark Wilson of CRRanch is getting the flag from 9/11 in a suitcase that will have to be carefully guarded. Dick Moore will contact him.
Parking for volunteers and the motorcycles was discussed & a section of the VFW parking lot will be allocated to both.
Directional signs have been made and they need to be coordinated as to where & when they will be set up.
Becky is getting the patches made up, the Tshirts are ordered. She has all the meals planned & volunteers are still needed for serving.
Our veterans represent freedom and it’s cost. They are our national hero’s and warrior’s.
The cost of freedom is not purchased in a lump sum. It is paid in installments by our veterans.
AVTT pays tribute with several exhibits and memorials.
The Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall is an 80% size replica visual presentation; standing over 8’ tall @ apex, and over 370 feet long.
The Cost Of Freedom displays are 9 large memorials represented in gold dog tags under glass to remember and honor all who died in service since Vietnam, including 9/11.
A large art display; Vietnam Remembered and a Walk of Heroes’ display also accompanies AVTT.
Our nation reveals itself not only by the veterans it produces, but by those it honors, and remembers with tribute and respect.
AVTT has no political agenda. All who visit each event can share a common bond of experience and patriotic thanks.
A person is not gone until the memories are; AVTT is dedicated to remembering all with honor.
America can not forget those who sacrificed all, and support all who have served and are serving. This is vital education for our youth.
Our country must also remember the POW’s and MIA’s who never came home; AVTT is dedicated to their cause and memory.
To all who came home; our tributes simply say “ Welcome Home “.
It is our duty and mission that those who served SHALL never be forgotten.
